Bio-Village Conference at Kolunji 2022
The Bio-village project is a vision that has been developed by Kudumbam. Future Earth, Sweden is supporting this initiative through a conference every year. The ideas for the project have been implemented for the last 6-7 years. Bio-Village is attended to promote a pesticide free and chemical fertilizer free Eco-friendly village. A couple of the goals would be that villagers become more self-sufficient, produce their own food and own seeds, the establishment of a community forest and training on various bio-inputs for organic farming. The empowerment of rural youth to prevent migration to urban areas will be another central part of the project. The aim of the program is to empower farmers and to increase their knowledge on sustainability in a holistic approach. The aim is also to advocate during the program for a new policy in Tamil Nadu on organic agriculture, and to enhance the scoop of the Mid-Day meal scheme (PM POSHAN - Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman). So far, discussions with farmers to identify local issues and invitations to various Governmental departments to take part in the project has been conducted. Every year we host a bio village conference at Kolunji Ecological Farm for the farmers around Tamil Nadu. During the conference we exchange traditional seeds.
