PAN AP (Pesticide Action Network - Asia Pacific)
PAN AP is working throughout Asia each year on one particular issue within the network. Currently, 600 participating nongovernmental organizations from 90 countries are members of PAN AP. Examples of topics in focus by the network over the years includes: Week of Rice Action (WORA), Month of Rice Action (MORA), Year of Rice Action (YORA), 16 days of Global Action demanding local food, youth involvement in agroecology, recognition and rights for women as farmers, and celebrating seasonal food festivals/exhibition etc., PAN AP has five common strategic objectives which is; 1. Protect health and the environment by eliminating highly hazardous pesticides from the market and replacing them with sustainable solutions; 2. Resist development and stop the introduction and use of genetic engineering into agricultural production systems; 3. Promote empowerment of grassroots movements and citizens to fight agrochemicals and seed corporations and challenge corporate globalization; 4. Increase public investment, development, adoption and implementation of non-chemical alternative pest management systems; 5. Develop further PAN International structures. One of the important target groups the network aims to influence are consumers in annual activities. Universities and colleges are usually included in most of the activities arranged, especially students who research issues and alternatives related to agriculture. Kudumbam benefits by being affiliated with PAN AP since it increases our credibility on the national and international level, and to not stand alone when approaching Governmental institutions.
