Soil Health improving methods

The soil health activity aims at increasing organic matter in the soil through eco-friendly methods. The intervention includes developing organically produced compost for the single farmer and training on how to produce it. This activity aims to steadily increase the biological activity on the farmers field, for example through the increase of micro and macro organisms and the quality of the soil. Cattle manure, bunding and green manure plants are some of the methods used to improve the soil health. Training events are organized by Kudumbam for farmers to inform them about recycling local materials (animal waste and crop residues) available to improve soil health, keeping cattle on the agricultural field, and how to prepare their own vermicompost. The activity results in improved soil quality while using organic bio-inputs. Kudumbam has continuously worked with local villages and farmers on this activity since the inception of the organization.
